听力原文:W: Hi, Jack, have you finished Professor Smith's assignment?

M: The assignment? No, not yet.

W: But tomorrow's the deadline.

M: Anna, take it easy. I can always pull it together in no time.

W: Hey, don't you think playing PC games takes up too much of your time?

M: Oh, computer games represent the latest technology. You can't simply ignore them.

W: I know. You can play as much as you like during the holiday, but not now. It's affecting your studies.

M: It's not. I feel I'm getting smarter day by day, and my reaction time is much quicker.

W: You only become alive and alert at those war games. In class, I saw you doze off.

M: It's not my fault. The textbooks are boring and the lectures are tedious. I dislike those teachers who love to call the roll. But the games are interesting, challenging and can broaden my mind as well.

W: I didn't say the games are all bad, but you can't play games all the time. Have you ever considered what you will do if you fail the exams?

M: well…

W: I know it's not easy to resist the temptation, but self-discipline is essential to one's success. It's part of one's character. Look at yourself in the mirror. You look pale and haggard. See, you have nothing but half a life.

M: Really? Oh, heavens!

A.Teacher and student.

B.Mother and son.

C.Classmates.

听力原文:JANICE: Hello... Flagstone.

JON: Oh hello; is that Flagstone Properties?

JANICE: Yes that's right. Flagstone here. How can I help you? 【Example】

JON: Hello. I'm ringing just to make enquiries about renting a house. My name's Jon Anderson.

JANICE: Yes, Mr Anderson. What sort of thing were you looking for?

JON: Two-bedroomed house with garden.

JANICE: Well... yes, sir, that shouldn't be any problem... just to let you know that our

main areas, the main areas we deal with, are the city centre itself... 【Q1】

JOS: City centre.., uh-huh.

JANICE: And the north suburbs.

JON: Oh well.., we were most interested in the Northern areas actually.

JANICE: Right... yes... What sort of price were you thinking of?

JON: Well... could you give me some idea?

JANICE: Certainly. It really ranges from £250 per month. 【Q2】

JON: Only £250?

JANICE: Yes, to about £500 depending on a number of different factors.

JON: What does it depend on?

JANICE: Well, obviously the quality of the area. And then whether there's a garden. 【Q3】

JON: Well, as I said, we'd want a garden.

JANICE: And a garage pushes up the price.

JON: Right... well, we wouldn't necessarily need one. I think about £350 a month would be our limit.

JANICE: OK. Well... would you like to have a look at a couple of properties, sir?

JON: Yes, that'd be great.

JANICE: Looking at our files... I think we've got two which might suit you...

JON: Hang on. I'll just get a pen. Right.

JANICE: OK. Well, there's one on West Park Road which is £325 a month. 【Q4】

JON: Are the bills included?

JANICE: Well, that one just includes the water bill. 【Q5】

JON: OK, right.

JANICE: And the second house is in Tithe Road. I'll just spell that for you... OK?

JON: Yep.

JANICE: T-I-T-H-E Road.

JON: Got that. And how much is that one?

JANICE: That's £380.

JON: 380. IS that including water?

JANICE: NO, I'm afraid not, but it does include the telephone rental. 【Q6】

JON: Oh well, that's not too bad then. So ....

JANICE: So, when would you be available to see them?

JON: Well, I'll be in town next week.., say... Thursday?

JANICE: NO, I'm sorry we don't have any availability for Thursday. How about

Wednesday afternoon? 【Q7】

JON: OK. That's fine. Would 5.00 be OK?

JANICE: Yes, fine. 5.00 it is. Just come to the Flagstone Offices.

JON: Oh, before I forget. What sort of things do I need to get done.., to rent with you?

JANICE: Well, the most important thing is a letter from your bank...

JON: No problem...

JANICE: And then a reference letter from your employer. 【Q8】

JON: Yes, that's OK.

JANICE: Great, and then we would need you to give 2 weeks' notice of moving in... 【Q9】

JON: Right... 2 weeks' notice. And what about a deposit? 【Q10】

JANICE: That's one month's rent, whatever the amount is.

JON: OK. One month. Is that it?

JANICE: No, sorry, one more.., you will have to pay for the contract.

JON: Oh yes. I'd forgotten about that. OK, fine. So I'll start arranging those, and I'll...

JANICE: ... I'll see you next week.

JON: Yes. Thanks very much. Bye.

JANICE: Goodbye.

听力原文:W: Excuse me. Do you live here?

M: Yes, I've lived here in Edinburgh all my life. My name's Rory McDonald. How do you do?

W: Hi, I'm Chris Hudson from Phoenix, Arizona. I'm an oil engineer. I'm on my way to London on business.

M: How long are you staying in Edinburgh?

W: Just a day. What can I see here in twenty-four hours?

M: Well, most tourists want to visit the Castle. It's on Castle Rock. It's where the Scottish government used to be. From there you can walk down the Royal Mile.

W: What's the Royal Mile?

M: It's a narrow street of medieval houses. It's worth seeing. Then you really should visit Holyrood Palace.

W: Who lives in the Palace?

M: No one, except the Queen when she comes to Edinburgh, which is usually once a year. But the kings and queens of Scotland used to live there be fore Scotland was united with England.

W: When was that?

M: That was...er, let me see 2. in 1603.

W: You seem to know a lot about Scottish history.

M: Aye, well, I'm a McDonald of the McDonald clan. You know there are clans in Scotland, and we're all proud of our history.

W: I'd like to buy something as a souvenir of the trip. What should I buy?

M: Why don't you buy some sweaters? Scottish sweaters are famous for their quality. And you must buy some whiskey. Of course you know that's our national drink.

W: Yes, I've already bought the whiskey.

M: Good. But remember you mustn't put ice in it. That spoils the flavor!

W: Oh, we Americans put ice in everything!

听力原文:M: Mary, (19)you want to talk about your second essay, right?

W: Yes, Dr. Richardson. I just need your comments on what I'm planning to do. (19)I'm doing the essay on the differences between TV news programs at different hours of the day.

M: How many times slots are you planning to consider?

W: Well, I think I'd look at all of them. That'd be five slots. The breakfast news, midmorning news. midday news. mid-afternoon news and evening news.

M: That's rather a lot. And you'd have too much to consider. (20)Why don't you just do two. Say the midmorning and then evening news. That should give you two contrasting approaches with two main audience compositions.

W: OK, just two then.

M: Yes, I think that would be much better. Now how many actual programs do you plan to work with?

W: What do you think of analyzing a whole week's news programs?

M: Well, that depends on how much of each program, if you concentrate on one particular type of news item, say the sports news or local items, it might be alright.

W: Yes. that would be a good idea. (21)I won't make a decision before I collect a sample of programs over a whole week. I'll look at them and see what items appear throughout the week.

M: Yes, that's a sound approach. (22)Now we’re getting close to the deadline. Can you finish it in time?

W: Yes, I think so. I've completed the reading and I know what my basic approach is, so it's really just a matter of pulling it all together now.

M: Fine, Mary. I'll look forward to reading it.

(23)

A.To discuss the second essay.

B.To get the comments on TV news.

C.To plan to join TV news programs.

D.To tell the difference of TV news.

听力原文:W: Alexander, you speak quite good English. How did you learn a foreign language
so well? You know English is really a headache for me. I just don't know how to learn it well.

M: Well, when learning a foreign language, I would surround myself in the language, the target language, that I wanted to learn.

W: Surround oneself in the language? I think it is difficult to do that. Can you explain how you do it?

M: Uh, for example, I would watch a movie in that language, uh, which would help me keep motivated to learn vocabulary and phrases.

W: That sounds interesting.

M: Yeah, you'll have a lot of fun by doing so.

W: I see. A little hit of practice every day is very important to language learning.

M: Yes. Regular practice is also better than practicing a lot in one day. Learning a language well needs patience and perseverance.

W: Then what else did you do to learn a foreign language?

M: Well, I would keep a situational notebook.

W: What is that used for?

M: Ur, for example, in a restaurant, you use a certain phrase over and over again, and so if you can remember just one particular phrase in each setting, then you can immediately speak that language and have more confidence and you get more out of learning the language, I think.

W: Really? I'll try that. Thank you for your advice.

M: You're welcome.

(23)

B.He's asking the woman for help to improve his English.
